Portions of Route 82 in Union Township will remain closed through Wednesday for emergency water main repairs

Emergency repairs are underway after a water main broke in Union Township along Morris Avenue near the Lowes shopping center on Route 82.

American Water crews have been working to shut down the main since about 7 a.m. Tuesday. They say due to the complexity of this water main break they will be busy making repairs all night into Wednesday morning.

American Water also says Route 82 will remain closed in both directions until repair work is completed, which is expected to take place before rush hour Wednesday morning.

American Water says there is no impact to customers at this time, but customers in Union and Elizabeth may experience reduced water pressure and discolored or cloudy water during repairs.
