What an incredible three years it has been for Ipswich and Kieran McKenna.

He began his first managerial role on 20 December 2021, having built a reputation as a coach first with Tottenham’s youth team and then at Manchester United, where he worked with the first team under Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick .

When he moved to Ipswich they were still halfway up League One, but now, after two successive promotions, they are fighting at the top of the table for the first time since 2001/2002.

They come into this new season having secured their second win of the season with a 2-1 win at Wolves last week, but the home fans have not had a win in the top flight at the Portman since a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in April 2002 Road to celebrate more. Will today be the day this run ends?

In their own way, this is a revitalized Newcastle side who last week beat Leicester 4-0 in the league and Brentford 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
