The win also marked another big night for Vatrano, who along with Terry now leads the team in goals and is tied for second in scoring.

“It’s no secret how good a shooter he is, but the little things he does make life easier for me and (Ryan Strome),” Terry said. “In the end it was his bat that took part of it. Everything he does, his forechecking, he gets pucks back for me, he creates space for me, he’s physical. He really is the perfect teammate, honestly. I mean, he blocks shots, he hits, he runs hard and I think he had a lot of good karma because maybe they didn’t go in at the beginning of the year. It’s good to see some bounce off him.”

Meanwhile, tonight a Colorado team finds itself on the bench for the second half of a back-to-back game after picking up a 4-2 win in San Jose last night. The Avs trailed 2-1 early in the third period, but scored a power play goal from Mikko Rantanen and two even-strength goals from Joel Kiviranta to give the club its 19th win of the season.

“Especially in the first period, I thought we were shooting the puck, so that created a lot of chances,” Colorado coach Jared Bednar told Max Miller of NHL.com. “The second third wasn’t so good. I thought they got over it a little bit in the second period. But I liked our third one again. I thought we went back to what we did in the first third. I thought our penalty shootout (came up) huge.

Colorado (19-15-0, 38 points) is in fourth place in the Central Division.
