PSG 4-2 Monaco (December 18, 2024) Match analysis

Ousmane Dembele scored twice as Paris St Germain secured a 4-2 away win over AS Monaco on Wednesday to remain unbeaten in Ligue 1, in a game where goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma scored after a reckless foul by Wilfried Singo had a cut on his face.

Monaco defender Singo broke into the penalty area in the 17th minute, but his attack on Donnarumma resulted in the goalkeeper suffering a series of ugly cuts as the full-back’s studs hit him on the right cheek and around a dozen clips were used to close his wounds were used.

Donnarumma was replaced by Matvey Safonov in the 22nd minute and two minutes later PSG took the lead when Achraf Hakimi plundered down the right wing before pulling the ball back for Desire Doue to score with a simple finish.

Monaco equalized with a penalty from Eliesse Ben Seghir in the 52nd minute and then took the lead after the hour thanks to a classic poaching finish from Breel Embolo, but the lead was short-lived as Dembele equalized four minutes later.

Goncalo Ramos made it 3-2 for PSG in the 83rd minute with a powerful header from a corner, and substitute Lee Kang-in converted a late shot from Monaco keeper Philipp Koehn onto the right post, which had several nice ones Scored points stops, but could not save his team from defeat.

Monaco coach Adi Hütter was sent off for protesting after his side were denied a late penalty, before Dembele put the icing on the cake with a superb chip finish in the seventh minute of added time to make it 4-2.

The win means PSG go into Ligue 1’s Christmas break with 40 points, 10 ahead of second-placed Olympique de Marseille and Monaco, who are in third place on goal difference. The league will resume on January 3rd.
