“Queen of Christmas” Mariah Carrey opens the NFL Christmas game on Netflix

The Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey will open the NFL Christmas game on Netflix.

The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” pop star will sing her annual record-breaking holiday classic in a pre-recorded performance to kick off the day’s two soccer games, Netflix announced Thursday.

This will be a major undertaking for Netflix, which will broadcast both games live on its global platform, immersing the streamer deeper into the sports entertainment space. On Christmas Day, the current Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will play the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1:00 p.m. ET, followed by the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET. However, this game will also feature a halftime performance from another pop diva: Beyoncé, who will perform from her country album “Cowboy Carter.”

Meanwhile, Carey has just returned from her Christmas tour across the country. The pop singer is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of her Christmas album “Merry Christmas” and her hit “All I Want for Christmas.” According to the RIAA, the song has been certified 16 times platinum, making it the highest-certified single of all time by a female artist.

In an interview with The New York Times last month, Carey spoke about her continued success. “It’s really rewarding, and I’m just thankful and grateful for it and for all the people who come up to me and say, ‘I love your music’ or ‘I listen to your Christmas music in July’ – that started to develop. “One thing,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to do this for my life, and now we can do it.”
