Raiders star Brock Bowers is on the verge of breaking more records in a historic season

In a disastrous season for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, one of the few positives fans can point to is rookie tight end Brock Bowers having a historic season.

Bowers had broken numerous records entering Sunday’s Week 16 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars, with the most notable record being the most receptions by a rookie tight end in a single season.

The previous record was held by Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, who scored 86 points in 2023. Bowers absolutely broke that record.

But Bowers isn’t done breaking big records just yet.

Following his 11-catch, 99-yard performance in Week 16, Bowers, who has 101 catches for 1,067 yards and four touchdowns this season, is now on pace to set the all-time rookie tight end record for most receiving yards break. as well as the rookie record for most receptions regardless of position.

He only needs 10 more yards to surpass Chicago Bears legend Mike Ditka, who had 1,076 yards in 1961. And he needs four more receptions to break Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua’s rookie reception record, which stands at 105.

We also need to keep an eye on the record for most receptions by a tight end in a single season, regardless of experience. Bowers is just 16 catches shy of breaking that record, which is held by former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, who had 116 catches in 2018.

All of these numbers are staggering, but just think of what Bowers could have done if the Raiders had played more competent quarterbacks all season.

The overwhelming thought is that Bowers won’t reach the Offensive Rookie of the Year award considering what Jayden Daniels did with the Washington Commanders. But if anyone deserves to be in the conversation, it’s Bowers, who would have walked away with this honor if not for Daniels’ special season.
