HIGH 5 AT WCVB.COM. IN ORDER. Watch it LIVE here. Look at LEOMINSTER and it looks like the snow is falling at a pretty good clip now. I mean, a big difference especially in the last one. What, five, ten minutes? YES. And and we go straight in. 128. WE WILL NOT GET ANYTHING SUSTAINABLE. No, I mean, even LEOMINSTER can be seen melting down the street now. So it’s not a matter of intensity to overcome the ground, which is really quite warm. Remember, we were really warm this fall until the start of winter. AND SO THAT THE FLOOR STORES LARGE HEAT. A LOT of things melt when touched. Once the snow is heavy enough, it sort of overcomes that and starts piling up a little bit. So I think it will rain and snow on the morning commute. Give yourself a little more time. Remember: no one has driven this in a while. IT MAY TAKE A LITTLE LONGER, PARTICULARLY IF YOU ARE IN AN AREA WITH PLOWABLE SNOW NORTH AND WEST OF 495. This all ends around 9am, although there may be a few isolated snow squalls developing late morning into AFTERNOON. Look at the temperatures. THESE TEMPERATURES JUST COLD ENOUGH TO KEEP THE SNOW OFF. THESE TEMPERATURES FOR WARMING. That’s why we’re seeing some rain out there. AND LOOK AT THE SEA TEMPERATURE. IT’S STILL 49 DEGREES. EVERY breeze from the water brings in warm air. So at this point there is the dividing line between snow and rain. AND THAT’S ALWAYS REALLY COLLAPSED IN THE LOWELL AREA WHERE WE’RE SEEING LIGHT RAIN. TRAVEL A LITTLE FURTHER WEST TOWARD LEOMINSTER IF THE CITY GETS A LITTLE LIGHT SNOW. WE ALSO HAVE LIGHT RAIN BUT LOOK AT THE YELLOW BANDS SHOWN HERE. This is heavier, more intense rain we’re talking about, or at least moisture, because when it crosses that line, you can see that it turns really dark blue there. This is an indication that the snowfall is becoming a little more stable. AND WHEN THE SNOW GETS ENOUGH INTENSITY, IT WILL BEGIN TO PACK UP. BUT LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS JUST THE BACK EDGE. THIS thing goes through pretty quickly. And that’s why I say most of this will be over by nine in the morning. TONIGHT it’s raining and snowing. It’s snowing inland. Apparently the temperatures are around the level they are at now. THEY WON’T CHANGE MUCH. And rain and snow tomorrow morning, and then maybe a snowstorm in the afternoon that comes through as the actual front breaks through and kind of tears down the atmosphere and squeezes out the last little bit of moisture. As soon as the front comes through, it will be gusty. TOMORROW HIGH TEMPERATURES, 38 TO 46. I don’t know if it will feel quite as warm with the breeze we have out there. SO SEE WHAT HAPPENS TONIGHT. THIS RAIN SNOW LINE FLIRTS WITH BOSTON. But again, I think it’s just too warm on the lower levels so we won’t see any traffic jams here. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SEE SOME SNOWFLAKES LAYING UP IN THE GRASS AREAS OR ON SOME OF THE LAWN FURNITURE, BUT OTHERWISE MOST OF THE SNOW THAT WILL PACK UP IS HERE. BUT LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE. 8:00 We’re looking at the back edge here, so to speak. And around 9:00 a.m. it was already pushing quite far into the sea. AND THEN WE’RE DONE. Unless the front comes through, these snow squalls may be triggered. Remember: This is the equivalent of a summer thunderstorm in winter. WHILE IT GOES THROUGH IT YOU GET A FAST SNOW, REDUCES VISIBILITY, CAN MAKE IT VERY SMOOTH BUT IT DOESN’T LAST VERY LONG. IT’S REALLY A QUICK STRIKE AND GOES ON. AND BECAUSE IT’S FAST, IT CAN BE A LITTLE DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU DON’T EXPECT IT. And suddenly the sky turns white and you can’t see anything anymore. So most of the rain will be on the south side, with the north seeing the most stable rain, perhaps 3 to 6 inches. And when it comes to rain, we actually still need the moisture. And it looks like we can get about half an inch of liquid content out of it. If it were cold enough, say, down towards Martha’s Vineyard, you would expect close to 9 to 10 inches of snow. BUT THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN. IN ORDER. TOMORROW, TOMORROW SNOW AND RAIN. And then we watch out for the snow squalls in the afternoon. Friday will be really windy and cold. Highs will only be around 32 degrees, and the coldest will actually be Saturday morning. IT MAY NOT FEEL AS BAD AS FRIDAY MORNING BECAUSE THE WIND WILL DOWN A LITTLE, AND THEN A LITTLE MILDER, LITTLE LESS WIND ON SUNDAY. BUT WARM UP AS WE GO TO MONDAY, TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. Maybe it will be warm enough by next Monday
