Rain, snow, some wind – news, weather, sports from Boston

Rain, snow, some wind – news, weather, sports from Boston

After a sunny day today, or at least a sunny start, clouds moved in late afternoon before snow and rain tonight. Light snow will begin around 8/9 p.m. and continue overnight into Thursday morning. With conditions worsening inland there will be a pretty tough commute tomorrow morning. If you’re traveling from New Hampshire on the Pike, Route 2, Route 3 or 93, plan on a fairly slow drive with snow-covered roads tomorrow morning. Most of the rain and snow will stop by mid-morning and rain and snow showers will persist throughout the day, so conditions will improve thereafter.

The worst travel conditions are observed in the Winter Weather Advisory (purple shaded areas) this evening and tomorrow.

Most areas outside of 495 will see 2 to 4 inches of snow, with the highest terrain in the Worcester Hills and southern New Hampshire (Monadnock Region) receiving 4 to 6 inches of snow. As you move within the 495 limit, the snowfall count will drop quite dramatically and along the coast it is likely to be just flakes as precipitation reduces to showers in the afternoon hours. Where we don’t expect accumulation, it’s actually just a cold rain tonight and tomorrow morning with a few flakes as the storm moves out here.

When the storm subsides, not only will it leave behind a few showers of rain and snow, but the wind will also be pushing us along. Both Thursday and Friday will be windy days, with a wind warning in effect tomorrow for gusts of up to 50 miles per hour in places. Friday may offer a little less wind, but with cold temperatures it will be COOOOLD! Highs will only reach 30° on Friday, but with the wind it will feel like the teens for most of the afternoon.
