Ram Gopal Varma defends Pushpa 2 ticket prices.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has issued a strong statement in response to the ongoing criticism over the high ticket prices for the upcoming film ‘Pushpa 2’. Taking to Twitter, RGV addressed critics, suggesting that those who find ticket prices unreasonable should either avoid seeing the film altogether or wait until prices drop in a week or month. He reminded everyone that they have the opportunity to make a choice.

RGV emphasized that entertainment is not a basic need like food, clothing or shelter. He questioned why people complain about the cost of movie tickets but not about the rising prices of luxury goods and branded goods. He emphasized the principles of democratic capitalism and explained that films, like any other product, are made for profit and not as a public service.

To illustrate his point, RGV shared an analogy about a man named Subba Rao, whose plate of idli cost ₹1,000. Despite the high price, Subba Rao believed in the superior quality of his idlis. If customers did not find the price justified, they would not buy them and the only one who would suffer losses would be Subba Rao himself. RGV compared this scenario to Pushpa 2 and argued that ticket buyers were responsible for the perceived “seven-star quality ” of the film, just as customers pay for luxury experiences in high-end hotels.

He also pointed out that the demand for Pushpa 2 remains strong despite the criticism. RGV subtly noted that the bookings for the film were already fully booked, similar to Subba Rao’s successful hotel chain where there was no room left for customers.

Concluding his remarks, RGV reiterated that viewers have the freedom to choose whether to watch the film or wait for a more favorable opportunity.
