Rap legend Flavor Flav was broken in spirit at the tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller due to safety issues

An alleged security incident at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting caused a stir for the rap superstar last night Flavor Flav having “broken his spirit” because of the confrontation.

In a now-deleted tweet, the Public Enemy hype man accused NBC of trying to remove him from television Back Street Boys‘ Changing Room while also asking him to help create content for her social media feeds.

Flav, as his fans often call him, shared his perspective on the alleged Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting incident on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday evening.

“I feel weird,” he began.

“I was invited to the Rockefeller tree lighting tonight and was joined by my boys, the Backstreet Boys,” Flav noted.

“We were backstage in (their) dressing room. Security came up to me and (said), ‘NBC doesn’t want me in this area and I have to leave.’ At the same time, their social media lady came and asked to capture social content.”

“What have I ever done to NBC or anyone?” the heartbroken rapper asked, adding:

“Everything I do is spread joy and love, and I believe I did that for NBC at the Olympics.”

As Complex As he notes, the entertainer, born William Jonathan Drayton Jr., was a highlight at this year’s Summer Olympics, cheering on the U.S. women’s polo team as both a fan and sponsor.

Ultimately, Flav would think twice about leaving the tweet on his feed – but he expressed his continued disappointment in a follow-up.

“I deleted the tweet but my spirit is broken,” he wrote.

Throughout the night, Flav posted several clips of himself enjoying his time lighting the Rockefeller Christmas tree. This led some to believe that the security issue had been resolved to some extent.

Still, fans of Flav questioned why the Backstreet Boys, the event’s guests of honor, didn’t stand up in his defense at that moment – a suggestion he quickly confirmed.

“(The Backstreet Boys) stood up for me,” Flav told a fan on X. “They definitely did.”

As evidence, photos of Flav with the legendary boy band were posted on the rapper’s Instagram profile. He also shared snaps of himself with All Time Low guitarist Jack Barakat, who Flav considers a good friend.

Flav’s participation in the annual holiday event is the latest show in what some have dubbed the “Flav Renaissance,” an emerging show of support and appreciation for the star.

Now 65, he is far removed from the many problems that have plagued his life and career – which he attributes in part to being sober for the last four years – and is embracing every privilege that comes with being one of the most famous stars of several eras.

“I’m really having a lot of fun with my life right now,” Flav said CNN Earlier this year.

“When people see me, they see me as this really big, huge star – bigger than King Kong, but to me I’m not that big,” he said at the time. “I’m only this human size.”, you know? You have to stay humble. You (have to) wake up every day knowing that life is not promised to you.”

Although most associate Flav with ’80s and ’90s hip-hop, he has never shied away from his eclectic taste in music and his appreciation for artists from other genres.

These days, it’s no surprise to see Flav hanging out with Billboard Queen on the Eras Tour Taylor Swifthugging Billie Eilish freaking out at an awards ceremony or at the possibility of a meeting Cher – all things he has done recently.

“You know, the world loves Public Enemy a lot. And there are also a lot of young artists who really love Flavor Flav,” he notes. “So what I do is I embrace all of that and also their music. I’m just trying to stay current.”
