Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets have never been further from the “Mendoza Line” of normality, general organized function and competence. Gang Green has only won two games since Halloween, and if we’re honest, there’s no hope in sight. It seems to be in a constant state of chaos, offering only awkward gameplay and headlines with bad visuals, like a weird episode that’s strangely involved Drive crazy and the sons of owner Woody Johnson.

The Jets’ unique, circus-like brand of misery even merges with tiny, innocuous moments amid unimportant games. It’s so bad that even the referees are literally laugh about Rodgers and the Jets’ uncanny ability to step on rakes.

About midway through the third quarter of the Jets’ game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Rodgers attempted to force a pass into a tight window on a third-and-very long pass. As expected, this didn’t work out for him as Bills cornerback Christian Benford showed off his coverage range and secured a great pick. You know that in normal football you make mistakes when you’re desperate.

On his return, Benford ran out of bounds and Rodgers accidentally knocked him to the ground when he was already out of danger and had left the pitch. Chief referee Clete Blakeman subsequently delivered one of the funniest penalty calls of all time.

That’s right, dear readers. A quarterback, in this case Rodgers, somehow committed an unnecessary roughness penalty.

Both Blakeman and Rodgers couldn’t hide their visible laughter when the chaos of this sequence was finally sorted out:

That’s how terrible this Jets season was for everyone.

Even the quarterback commits unnecessary rudeness as his team falters against a vastly superior opponent. When insults pile on insults, you know that anything terrible is truly possible for these Jets.
