Repair work on the water main break in Edison continues. A boil water warning has been issued

A major water main break is still affecting Edison residents.

It happened Thursday morning at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.

Crews have been working over the last day to isolate the problem and repair the water main break.

Edison Mayor Sam Joshi says more work is needed and will continue, but some homes may experience low water pressure again today.

On Friday, emergency services pumped out water to expose the main breach. After that, they can determine what type of repair is needed.

Once this is done, the water is slowly pumped back through the pipes and the air is released from the pipes to ensure that there are no further breaks in the water line during the process.

It’s a much different scene than Thursday, when water flowed through Woodbridge Avenue and M Lane for hours.

Around 20,000 people were affected by the main crisis, including private households and businesses. The town hall was also closed all day. As a result, residents had little or no water pressure.

Even today, in some neighborhoods there are still people without water. As a precautionary measure, a boil water advisory has been issued for the city.

In the mayor’s most recent update, he spoke about the work being done around the clock and the larger issue of city infrastructure.

Edison City Hall will be closed Friday due to the water main break.

The city will distribute water to residents on Friday. You can visit the bottled water centers – at Firehouse 1 at 25 Plainfield Ave. or at Firehouse 2 on Route 27 at the corner of Langstaff Avenue. Residents must show ID.
