Taysom Hill, tight end for the New Orleans Saints, has had to leave a game due to injury more and more often this season.

However, this one appears to be more serious.

Hill left Sunday’s 21-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter – this time being carried off the field on a cart with a knee injury.

He was injured on a QB draw on a fourth-down play in which Hill gained 2 yards and the first down at the Rams 34.

Video of the play appears to show Hill placing a helmet on his left knee and his knee bending backwards awkwardly as he falls to the turf.

It is the third time in 2024 that Hill has left a game early due to injury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday night that Hill’s injury is feared to be season-ending.

That’s not the final diagnosis – according to ESPN, Hill will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

“It’s the worst. I don’t know anything, you all probably know more than I do,” Saints quarterback Derek Carr said in his postgame press conference, according to NOLA.com. “Just as a brother and as a friend, because it’s bigger than football at this moment. You know, his family, his kids, his wife, you know, everyone. And your heart just breaks.”

The all-rounder Hill – a former BYU star – had 10 rushing yards on five carries and a team-high five receptions for 37 yards before leaving the game.

Hill had missed the start of the year due to injury – in Week 2 he was injured in the game against the Dallas Cowboys and was taken to a local hospital. He missed New Orleans’ next game before returning in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons – although he again exited that match with another injury and missed the next three games before returning in Week 8.

Saints fans chanted Hill’s name as he was loaded onto the cart, and Hill waved to the crowd as he left the field.

“Taysom is going down, a lot of guys are disappointed,” Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi said, according to ESPN. “He’s obviously a very respected and well-liked guy in our locker room.”
