Revisionist Story: Zach Bryan shares a new story behind fan-favorite song “28” after public breakup.

Zach Bryan suffered a massive blow to his hands upon his release The great American bar scene Earlier this year. The collection reached number 2 across all genres billboard 200 chart and spent two weeks at the top of the publication’s Top Country Albums chart. According to streaming numbers, “28” was the most popular song on the album, garnering more than 150 million streams.

In the past, Bryan told fans that Boston, the puppy he shared with ex-girlfriend Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia, inspired the song after he survived emergency surgery. Now, however, he tells a completely different story.

Recently, Bryan took his “Quittin’ Time Tour” to Portland, Oregon for a two-day stand at the Moda Center. During one of the shows, he introduced “28” with a story about bowling with the boys. “I wrote this song because me and all the boys went bowling one night in New York City. And I was lucky to have every single one of them and I was so happy to be alive,” he said. “Song called ’28,'” he added before starting the song.

Zach Bryan changes the story behind “28”

Zach Bryan told fans the story behind the song during a question and answer session on Twitter shortly after the album’s release. “Boston, our puppy, had surgery and I said to Briana, ‘How lucky are we?’ to have had such a beautiful puppy. And she succeeded quite well,” he tweeted. “I wrote (“28”) the next day because I felt like the luckiest man on the planet,” he added.

Additionally, Brianna and several of her friends have matching tattoos that read, “How lucky are we?” As a result, some fans believe she had more to do with the song’s inspiration than Bryan lets on. Then there are the opening lyrics, which sound like an ode to a happy love affair.

Since the publication of The great American bar sceneHe and LaPaglia experienced a very public breakup. She used her podcast to claim that Bryan was mentally and emotionally abusive, repeatedly cheated on her, and other things. Bryan has not publicly responded to her allegations. However, it appears that he is trying to distance himself from the relationship with this new origin story for “28.”
