Rodgers and Adams of the Jets connect for a touchdown against the Seahawks

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams for a touchdown. Does this sound familiar? The longtime quarterback-wide receiver duo delivered the 70th touchdown of their careers, an 8-yard reception with 3:25 left in the first quarter, giving the New York Jets a sixth on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium :0 lead.

Rodgers and Adams have often not shown their old form this season, but that old chemistry was evident in this game. The Jets lined up in a group formation on the right side and gave Adams single coverage on the left side against nickel corner Josh Jobe.

Rodgers’ eyes must have lit up. He looked at Adams as soon as he got the snap, and he threw a perfect pass into the corner of the end zone. It was Adams’ second touchdown as a member of the Jets, both on throws from Rodgers.

Seconds later, the Jets struck again, this time with a 4-yard shovel pass to rookie running back Isaiah Davis. It was his first NFL touchdown and gave the Jets a 14-0 lead after the successful 2-point conversion.

The Jets capitalized on a fumble recovery on the Seahawks’ kickoff return – a rare instance of the Jets operating on a short field. Credit playcaller Todd Downing with a clever design. Davis, who is rarely used on offense, acted as a wing on the right side. After the snap, he made a jet move to the left, caught the shovel pass and raced into the end zone.

The Jets scored their third touchdown on a 99-yard kickoff return by Kene Nwangwu that found its way into the end zone in 24 hours from the practice squad. It gave the Jets a 21-7 lead in the second quarter.

For Nwangwu, who was called up from the practice squad on Saturday, it was his first game for the Jets this season. Talk about impressive debuts. It was his fourth career touchdown on a kickoff return and the Jets’ first since Braxton Berrios in 2021.

Nwangwu, a 2021 fourth-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings, was signed to the Jets’ practice squad on September 9. During last week’s bye, coaches looked for ways to boost the team.

They decided to give Nwangwu a chance – and it paid off.
