Romeo Doubs wears the Guardian cap in the Packers game against the Seahawks

Romeo Doubs returned after a two-game absence and made an immediate impact for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Packers wide receiver intercepted a shot from Jordan Love in tight coverage and then fought his way into the end zone late in the first quarter.

His touchdown gave the Packers a 14-0 lead.

Doubs looked like himself again after being sidelined by a concussion, a head injury he suffered on November 24 against the San Francisco 49ers. But Doubs’ appearance was different. He was wearing a protective hat.

What is a protective cap?

This is a softshell cover over the helmet that is intended to reduce concussions and head injuries on the field.

Guardian Cap history with the NFL

Guardian caps have become increasingly common in the NFL in recent years as the league and players look to combat head injuries and stay safer on the field.

They were first seen on practice fields in 2020. The use of Guardian Caps continued to increase, with 23 teams purchasing the caps ahead of the 2021 season.

The NFL has expanded the use of Guardian Caps in 2022, requiring offensive and defensive linemen, tight ends and linebackers to wear them at the start of training camp.

The league has added running backs and fullbacks to the list of players required to wear the Guardian Caps during preseason, regular season and postseason contact training.
