Ronaldo praises Portugal’s role as co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup

Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his pride and excitement following FIFA’s confirmation that Portugal will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

In a heartfelt social media post on Wednesday, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wrote:

“A dream come true. 🇵🇹 Portugal will host the 2030 World Cup and will make us proud. Together!”

Today, FIFA officially announced the hosts of the next two editions of the tournament via its website and X account. The announcement read: “Introducing the hosts of the next two editions of the @FIFAWorldCup!

“Morocco, Portugal and Spain will host in 2030, with centenary games in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

“Four years later, Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 FIFA World Cup™.”

While Ronaldo’s excitement for the World Cup on home soil is clear, speculation continues as to whether the football icon – who turns 40 in February 2025 – could extend his illustrious career to take part in the tournament at 45.

Regardless of his playing status, Ronaldo’s legacy in Portuguese football continues to inspire fans around the world.

Reports from PUNCH Online show that fans around the world responded enthusiastically to his post on X.
Meanwhile, PUNCH Online notes that Ronaldo’s long-time rival Lionel Messi led Argentina to a historic victory at the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in football history.

For Ronaldo, a World Cup trophy remains perhaps the only major honor missing from his illustrious career, which has included multiple Champions League titles, the European title with Portugal in 2016 and a record-breaking five Ballon d’Or awards .

The 2030 tournament, scheduled to take place on home soil, offers Portugal a symbolic opportunity to shine, even if questions remain about Ronaldo’s possible participation.
