RUTLAND – The Rutland community and firefighters across the region are sharing their grief – and offering support – after a firefighter’s wife and the couple’s newborn twins were placed on life support.

Firefighter Patrick Sullivan has served the City of Rutland for over 13 years, first as a dispatcher and for the last two years as a full-time firefighter/EMS.

Sullivan and his wife Ciara were eagerly looking forward to the birth of their twins and the joy of becoming parents for the first time.

On the morning of Dec. 16, Ciara suffered a serious medical emergency that required immediate and extensive intervention and was subsequently intubated, authorities said.
