Sacramento State has interviewed Michael Vick for a coaching position, university president says

Sacramento State President Dr. Luke Wood said he met with Michael Vick about the university’s head football coaching position. The position has been open since Andy Thompson resigned on December 6 to take a position at Stanford University. Wood said Vick expressed interest in the open position. “Yes, I met with him about his interest in Sac State football and our athletic advancement,” Wood shared on X. “As you can imagine, our job as head football coach is attractive given the success of our athletic programs.”Vick left a complicated legacy in the NFL. Although he played for 13 seasons and led the NFL in quarterback rushing yards, his accomplishments are often overshadowed by the 18 months in prison he served for his role in a dogfighting ring. Vick officially retired from the league in 2017 and anti-animal cruelty was part of his mission. The AP reported that Vick was also being interviewed to be the next head football coach at Norfolk State University. Vick is a Virginia native and attended Virginia Tech. According to the AP, Vick said the HBCU school reached out to him about the position.
