Saints’ Alvin Kamara makes impressive TD catch on return throw

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Saints managed just 38 net yards of offense in the first half against the Washington Commanders. So they made some changes to get their offense going in the third quarter.

Saints wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. threw his first touchdown pass since 2020, receiving a throw from rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler and then finding running back Alvin Kamara for a 21-yard touchdown on first-and-10 with 5:53 left in the third quarter.

The Saints were down 17-7 after the touchdown pass.

Rattler set up the score with a 39-yard pass to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the previous play. Rattler, who came on for Jake Haener early in the second half, stepped into the pocket on second-and-11 and found Valdes-Scantling downfield.

Valdes-Scantling managed to keep the ball despite colliding with a Commanders defender shortly after securing the pass.

Haener started the game as a replacement for the injured Derek Carr, but was substituted for Rattler after one half. Rattler started three plays early in the second game to relieve Carr, who suffered an oblique injury. Carr is currently sidelined with an injury to his non-throwing hand.
