Saints are likely to be the winner of the Lattimore trade after the recent injury

The New Orleans Saints traded away Marshon Lattimore earlier this season and should consider themselves a winner after he missed another game with the Washington Commanders due to injury.

It was a bittersweet moment when the Saints sent Lattimore to the Commanders in November along with a 2025 fifth-round pick in exchange for a package of third-, fourth- and sixth-round picks in 2025. He was a four-time Pro Bowler in New Orleans, but it seemed like it was time for the parties to go their separate ways.

Lattimore has only played in two games since the trade, one against the Saints, and has performed very well. The problem is that he is still struggling to stay healthy with his new team. He hasn’t played a full season since 2021 and is now expected to miss another game against the Atlanta Falcons after his hamstring injury re-aggravated.

New Orleans should be happy that they were able to capitalize on his value while the iron was still hot. They got their draft picks for him and can now get out of the situation. The fact that he was still showing up on the injury report while the Saints were at their lowest point would have only made matters worse. At least the capital bill will make the inevitable reconstruction easier.
