Sci-fi horror from Flying Lotus will be released in 2025

RLJE Films and Shudder have unveiled the first teaser poster for their new sci-fi horror, Ash. Grammy winner Steven Ellison’s second feature film, also known as “Flying Lotus,” is scheduled to hit theaters on March 21, 2025.

The official synopsis reads: “On the mysterious planet Ash, Riya (Eiza González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Aaron Paul) arrives to rescue them, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues as Riya and Brion must decide whether they can trust each other to survive.”

Other cast members include Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, Kate Elliott, Beulah Koale, Ellison and Andrew B. Miller.

Ellison serves as both the film’s composer and director. Jonni Remmler wrote the script. Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Matthew Metcalfe of GFC Films serve as producers. Executive producers include Neill Blomkamp and Echo Lake Entertainment. RJLE Films acts as distributor.

Rapper and producer Ellison debuted his first feature film “Kuso” in 2017, which was followed by a segment titled “Ozzy’s Dungeon” in “V/H/S/99” in 2022.

Shudder was launched by AMC Networks in 2015 as a platform for horror and thriller fanatics. Other original titles on the platform include “Late Night with the Devil,” “Speak No Evil,” “Mad God,” “The Boulet Brothers Dragula Resurrection” and “Doc of Chucky.”

Ellison recently spoke with Hypebeast about the experience of making “Ash” compared to his previous film “Kuso.”

“It’s completely different,” he said. “With ‘Kuso’ I did so much of it at my house and a lot of it was me begging my friends to do something, whereas ‘Ash’ was a real production. Everything was really real. Going to the office, being in meetings every day, under fluorescent lights. It was great to work with professionals who have incredible experience in the industry. People go to New Zealand to make sci-fi and fantasy films, so I was one of all those people who worked on The Lord of the Rings and other Peter Jackson and James Cameron stuff.”
