Score, highlights from the NFL game of week 15

PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles insist they have pushed aside the distractions that arose last week when wide receiver AJ Brown said the passing game needed improvement while edge rusher Brandon Graham suggested on the radio that the relationship between Brown and Quarterback Jalen Hurts was tense.

Graham walked back his comments a day later, while Brown expanded on his comments on Wednesday while Hurts shared his viewpoints.

All of this provides an interesting backdrop to the Eagles’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as players and head coach Nick Sirianni insisted the week’s turmoil was not a distraction.

The Eagles put those doubts to rest when Hurts threw for 290 yards on a 25-for-32 passing game, leading the Eagles to a 27-13 victory. Brown had 8 catches for 110 yards and DeVonta Smith had 11 catches for 109 yards.

It was the Eagles’ 10th straight win as they improved to 12-2.

And the Eagles came out Sunday looking determined to prove a point. Hurts, playing with an “apparently broken finger” on his left non-throwing hand, threw three straight passes early in the game.

Meanwhile, Brown caught a touchdown pass and DeVonta Smith caught another as the Eagles took a 17-13 halftime lead.

But the Eagles had a big lead, 177-80 yards.

The Eagles take command as Jalen Hurts initiates the tush

The Eagles took advantage of Najee Harris’ fumble as the Steelers headed for the potential touchdown. Harris beat Russell Wilson up the field and Darius Slay recovered on the Eagles’ 26th point. The Eagles then pushed down the field, using up 6:33 and capping the drive with Jalen Hurts’ tush.

That gave the Eagles a 27-13 lead with 14:17 left in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles add a field goal, but Landon Dickerson is injured

The Eagles extended their lead to 20-13 with a 41-yard field goal by Jake Elliott. Elliott had actually made a 48-yarder, but a personal foul on the Steelers gave the Eagles a first down. But the drive stalled and Elliott hit his second FG of the game.

Early in the drive, left guard Landon Dickerson left with a knee injury. Tyler Steen replaced him and had two holding penalties. Only one was accepted.

Is Saquon Barkley injured?

Overall, Hurts was 12 of 13 for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brown had 5 catches for 65 yards while Saquon Barkley had 7 carries for 31 yards. He went to the medical tent at the end of the second quarter. He came out of the tent and stood on the sideline as the Eagles had the ball in the final three minutes.

There was no report of an injury from the Eagles. Barkley was back in the second half.

Jalen Hurts continues to throw, the Eagles take a 17-3 lead

Jalen Hurts keeps throwing and the Eagles keep scoring. Hurts capped the Eagles’ TD push with a 2-yard pass to DeVonta Smith, giving the Eagles a 17-3 lead with 9:07 left. Hurts is 12 of 13 for 146 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Hurts threw for just 108 yards and 118 in the last two games.

The Eagles have a lead of 193 yards to 28.

The Steelers then had their best drive of the game, scoring on a 9-yard pass from Russell Wilson to Pat Freiermuth, cutting the Eagles’ lead to 17-10 with 2:34 left in the half.

Jalen Hurts to AJ Brown’s touchdown, the Eagles lead 10-3

AJ Brown already has more receiving yards and as many receptions as he did last week. Brown capped the Eagles’ 70-yard drive with a 5-yard TD, giving the Eagles a 10-3 lead with 1:13 left in the first quarter.

Brown had balls of 16 and 20 yards early in the drive. He had 4 catches for 48 yards in the first quarter. Last week he had 4 for 43 yards.

Eagles fumble twice, survive a fight, only allow one FG

The Steelers entered the game leading the NFL in turnover differential of plus-17. They added two more turnovers within a minute of play. First, Jalen Hurts, trying to get a first down on 3rd-and-4, fumbled the ball away at the Eagles’ 45.

For Hurts, it was only his third turnover in the last 9+ games.

The Steelers got a three-and-out and kicked the ball back to the Eagles. But Cooper DeJean fumbled the ball away at the 11. The Steelers settled for a field goal after Calvin Austin was whistled for a personal foul during a skirmish in the end zone. The game ended 3:3.

As if to prove a point, the Eagles began their first possession with three straight completions – 22 yards to Grant Calcaterra, a 7-yard completion to AJ Brown, then a 21-yard completion to DeVonta Smith – all the way to the 20 yards from the Steelers.

That’s when Saquon Barkley got his first touchdown, to no avail. The Eagles’ offense faltered and they settled for a field goal and an early 3-0 lead.

Eagles inactive: Jalen Hurts playing with broken finger, report

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is playing with a broken finger on his left (non-throwing) hand, NFL Network reported. Hurts was listed all week with a finger injury, but also participated fully in practice every day.

Eagles punt returner Britain Covey was sidelined with a neck injury. WR Johnny Wilson was listed as questionable with an illness but is on the gameday roster. FB Khari Blasingame is the practice group.

The Eagles’ other inactive players are QB Tanner McKee, CB Eli Ricks, OL Darian Kinnard, OL Trevor Keegan and OL Nick Gates.

For the Steelers, starters WR George Pickens and S DeShon Elliott (both hamstrings) are among the inactives.

Kenny Pickett’s offense against the Steelers

It’s a difficult situation for Kenny Pickett.

Certainly the Eagles’ backup quarterback would love the opportunity to show his former team what he’s missing when the Eagles take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

But when Pickett gets the chance, he knows it will be a matter of elimination late in the game as the Eagles will either win or lose by a significant margin. Or even worse, if starter Jalen Hurts were to leave due to injury.

Pickett had a 14-10 record as a starter with the Steelers. He has thrown just three passes for the Eagles this season, including one for 5 yards. Still, he said he was happy with the Eagles.
