Seahawks vs. Cardinals predictions, tips and best bets for NFL Week 14

The Seattle Seahawks face the Arizona Cardinals for the second time in three weeks. And with the NFC West standings at loggerheads, this Week 14 contest will go a long way in deciding who will win the division.

These rivals bring contrasting results to my Seahawks vs. Cardinals predictions, with Seattle winning two games in a row and Arizona coming just two games away. However, it’s the home team that has my attention – and my NFL picks.

Let’s go over the spread, total and prop odds for this NFC West war on Sunday, December 8, starting at 4:05 p.m. ET at State Farm Stadium in Arizona on CBS.

Seahawks vs. Cardinals predictions

Spread Prediction: Seahawks vs. Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals opened as home favorites under the key number of a field goal and we saw that spread go up to -3 in some books.

Arizona and the Seattle Seahawks played a close, ugly game in Week 12, with the Seahawks pulling out a win thanks in part to a defensive touchdown. I want the Cards to return the favor, but I want to make sure I bet it shorter than the field goal, at -2.5 (-115) at BetMGM.

However, I’m more interested in Arizona’s moneyline.

If I lay the short spread with home chalk, I’m also calling for an outright win. Arizona’s two-game loss isn’t as bad as it seems at first glance (more on that below), and we see Seattle in a tough situation as it plays its second straight road game and third road game in the last four games must be weeks.

I could see a 23-21 win for Arizona in Week 14.

Seahawks vs. Cardinals Over/Under Prediction

That point total is down two full points from the opening 46.5 O/U, but is still on the high side of the all-important 44-point total — the fifth-most combined finish in the NFL.

Not enough is said about Arizona’s defense, which was among the league’s best in the second half of the schedule. Seattle’s defense has also come into its own under head coach Mike Macdonald and was a top 10 defensive player in the second half of the season.

I’ll win the under 44.5 in a divisional game that matters postseason.

Seahawks vs. Cardinals best bet

Pick: Arizona Cardinals moneyline (-143 at BetMGM)

The Cardinals have lost two in a row, although they have outscored both opponents in those losses, including the 16-6 loss at Seattle in Week 12.

The primary cause of Arizona’s deficits was its red zone offense, with the team going a combined 1-for-8 inside the opponent’s 20-yard line in those two road losses.

However, the Cardinals are returning to the desert for this monster matchup and have seen a much better offensive performance at State Farm Stadium.

Arizona scores an average of 24.2 points per game as host (four points more than away) and has the No. 1 red zone offense in the NFL at home in terms of touchdown rate at 76.47% – in comparison for the last away game at 33.33%.

Putting up points is a welcome thought for the Cardinals’ defense, which has quietly become one of the league’s best stopping units in the second half of the season.

Arizona ranks 6th in EPA allowed per game since Week 7 and has been particularly stingy against the pass thanks to its pass rush excellence. The Cardinals have collected 21 sacks in the last six games, including five sacks on Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith in Week 12.

Smith rushed for 254 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the last win over Arizona. His PFF numbers show a significant decline in performance when under pressure, while he performs better against the blitz than most. That’s fine for Arizona, which uses blitzes on less than 20% of opponent dropbacks but still only attacks the QB with the front four.

The Seahawks are also a little lucky that they have already played two games. They needed a 69-yard interception return for a second-half touchdown to upset the Cardinals at home in Week 12, then recovered from a 14-0 hole to pull ahead by one last Sunday in New Jersey late touchdown against the Jets.

Given that this game will take on playoff-like intensity, I can imagine it will be very close. I’ll pass on the -2.5 on the Cardinals and keep them clean on the money line with their overall odds.

The Cardinals should bounce back with a big home win anchored by their defense and scoring plenty of points on home soil.

They have two of the better defenses since Week 7 meeting in a heated divisional rivalry with massive postseason implications.

The Cardinals’ pass rush picks up after opposing QBs and Geno gets caught up in a few bad throws, one of which is caught by the Arizona defense.
