Sean McVay on Bears interim coach Thomas Brown: He demands respect, the guys will follow his example

The Bears hired Thomas Brown as interim coach after firing Matt Eberflus on Friday, and one of Brown’s former bosses thinks he’s a good fit for his new role.

Brown served as running backs coach, tight ends coach and associate head coach on Sean McVay’s staff with the Rams for three years, and McVay was asked about Brown during his press conference Friday. McVay said Brown, who was called up to play offense a few weeks ago, sets himself apart from others in the league because of “the competitiveness, spirit and never-say-die attitude” he brings to the job.

“Well, I know he’s always been a guy that had incredible command,” McVay said in a team transcript. “He was a great competitor. He demands respect from the people around him just by the way he behaves. Whenever these things come up. . . and I think even Thomas did a great job when he got the opportunity to take over the OC. He’s obviously done a great job, but it’s unique that the circumstances have come about, but he’s going to attack it. I think the boys will follow his example.”

The Rams and Bears have already played this season, so McVay won’t get the chance to compete with Brown in his new role. If Brown is as successful as McVay believes, they could get a chance to compete against each other in the future.
