Season 6 Finale, Charmaine, Doc’s Clinic, Explained (Exclusive)

Season 6 Finale, Charmaine, Doc’s Clinic, Explained (Exclusive)

(Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Virgin River Season 6.)

What happened to Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley)?! This is one of the cliffhangers Virgin River left us at the end of season six, now streaming on Netflix.

A lot happened in the final episode of the season, including Mike (Marco Grazzini) shockingly proposing to Brie (Zibby Allen) despite knowing about her affair with Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth). But what struck Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) the day after their wedding was the fact that Charmaine was missing from the ceremony. And so Jack went to their house to see what was going on, only to find the door was open and there were signs of a struggle something that shocked him in the nursery. The good news? What showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told TV Insider about this cliffhanger.

“I would say the twins are safe. I would be worried about Charmaine,” he admitted. “I feel like after season five with the miscarriage, I want to promise that no babies will be harmed in the future in the production of this show, but the circumstances are chaotic and Charmaine is the center of attention where they look after her “Usually you find yourself in the middle of chaos, right?”

As Hollingsworth explained to us, “She’s central to this whole crime element.”

The father of Charmaine’s twins is local gang leader Calvin (David Cubitt), against whom she sought to obtain a restraining order in season 6. Hollingsworth doesn’t know what happened to Charmaine, but he knows Calvin is involved in some way.

“I feel like Brady probably has a bone to pick with Calvin as well, so it would be fun to see him join this search party. I always like missions he can do with Jack and Preacher (Colin Lawrence),” Hollingsworth added. “I think they would really enjoy putting on their navy and doing some, I don’t know, damage.”

This cliffhanger, with Jack looking at something the audience doesn’t see, was always the plan at the end of season six – and Henderson is also in the dark.

“I saw a shot where he got it perfect, and then he stopped, looked at the camera and asked himself, ‘Why didn’t they write what’s on the other side of that door?'” Smith shared with. “Even though he had to play to his face because he didn’t know exactly what was happening on the other side, he was a professional.”

The good news? We’ll get answers once Season 7 begins. “When we start in Season 7, there’s a time jump of maybe two hours, so we’ll pick up at that moment and move on,” Smith revealed. “I love seeing that momentum carry from one season to the next.”

Another question Season 7 needs to answer is what will happen to Doc’s (Tim Matheson) license and clinic. His actions during a home visit were questioned and his license was suspended pending an investigation. But as Hope (Annette O’Toole) revealed, a woman on the Grace Valley Hospital board shared plans to bring her network to Virgin River. (This woman thought she was only talking to the mayor, not Doc’s wife.) They want the clinic.

“One thing that I think is a really special opportunity for our show is that even though we’re not a traditional medical procedural, we still have the medical perspective that we maintain throughout the series and we carry it through the “Be able to look at it through the lens of a small person.” City practice compared to Grey’s Anatomy “And with all the other shows that deal with large hospitals, it seems like a new opportunity for us to look a little bit at the current state of medicine and how that can impact these smaller practices,” Smith explained . “There’s kind of an overarching theme in season seven of the outside world invading this little piece of heaven, and that’s part of the tension there.”

Someone who definitely needed medical attention this season was Mel’s biological father, Everett (John Allen Nelson). The two worked on their relationship all season long – and then he suffered a heart attack right before their wedding. He still managed to make it to the ceremony, where a song he had completed for her was specially performed.

There was no discussion about killing Everett, Smith revealed, because “I think it would have been kind of pointless to make him kill him, almost cruel, but we didn’t originally intend for him to have the health problems.” , which he has.” had later.” Instead, while crafting the “final speed bumps” before the wedding, it felt “just perfect for Mel to go on this emotional journey with her biological father and then experience this confluence of events that leads to that “She’s coming back.” Into the fear that she has of the loss she once had and trying to celebrate her wedding anniversary just felt like a perfect way to bring it all together.”

Other unanswered questions for the future: Lizzie’s (Sarah Dugdale) pregnancy and a certain MIA character this season. The good news? Don’t expect Lizzie to be as pregnant as Charmaine. Rather, Smith assumes that she will give birth in season 7. And while the season began with Preacher on trial for his role in what happened to Paige’s (Lexa Doig) abusive ex, she didn’t show up. And there are “no plans” to see her again, the showrunner said.
