Seattle Seahawks coach absent for good reason – wife in labor

When the Seattle Seahawks’ day-after-game press conference took place on Monday afternoon, one very notable person was missing from the podium.

Head coach Mike Macdonald was not present at his usual meeting with the media at the Seahawks’ headquarters in Renton. The absence was good news, however, as Macdonald’s wife Stephanie had gone into labor with the couple’s first child.

Associate head coach Leslie Frazier stepped in to answer questions in place of the first-year head coach, calling the situation with Macdonald “commonplace.”

“It could happen as early as tonight,” Frazier told reporters. “We could find out tonight that the baby is here. It could be tomorrow. It might even take two or three days, but we will be on our guard. We’re just praying that everything goes well, looking forward to the good news and will adjust (our plans) if necessary.”

Luckily for Macdonald and the Seahawks, they have a little more time to work since Tuesday is a day off for the team.

Macdonald, 37, publicly announced in September that he and Stephanie were expecting a baby boy, with a due date sometime in December.

Just last week, during his weekly conversation with Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk, Macdonald was asked about becoming a father.

“I mean, the kid isn’t coming on a Sunday, is he?” asked co-host Mike Salk.

“No no. He knows better,” Macdonald replied.
