Seattle Weather: Wet, windy with coastal flooding

An active start to the weekend with lowland rain, mountain snow, gusty winds and coastal flooding. A strong low pressure area will cause widespread rain on Friday night, which will last until Sunday morning.

Rainfall totals over the weekend will be around 0.50 to 2 inches. The rains will stop Sunday afternoon, just in time for the Seahawks game Sunday night at Lumen Field.

Widespread rainfall is expected across the region. Scattered showers will continue through most of Saturday.

Snow levels will start at around 3,500 feet on Friday and drop to around 2,000 feet on Sunday. There’s a chance of snow in the mountains all weekend, with nearly a foot of snow on our passes in the area.

Mount Baker could see up to two feet of snowfall. Monitor road conditions throughout the weekend and be prepared for winter driving conditions.

As the snow depth drops, there will be masses of snow on the passes in our region.

Winds are also forecast to increase overnight Friday and into Saturday. Strong wind warnings are in effect along the north coast. The wind warnings extend south to the Oregon border and locations in the North Sound.

Gusty winds will blow during the night from Friday to Saturday.

Winds are expected to increase overnight Friday, reaching top speeds of around 50 mph.

The strongest winds will be along the coast and bay, with gusts exceeding 50 miles per hour. Inland Puget Sound will also be windy, with gusts of 40-50 mph. Winds will begin to die down Saturday evening through Sunday.

It will become gusty at times early Saturday, with North Puget Sound and the Washington Coast bearing the brunt of the strongest winds.

In addition to the gusty winds and wet weather, significant coastal flooding may occur along the Washington coast during high tide. Multiple coastal flood warnings and advisories will be issued through Saturday afternoon. Wave height will be approximately 11 feet, with 2 to 3 feet of flooding possible in low lying areas.

A coastal flood warning is in effect on the northern Washington coast until Saturday afternoon.

We’ll have a short break from the rain on Sunday afternoon before another chance of showers early next week. Afternoon highs will be close to, if not slightly above average on some days.

There will be isolated showers this weekend and a restless week ahead.

The rain will ease by Sunday morning but will return early next week.
