The film by director Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is set, according to the synopsis, “against the vivid backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world” and introduces Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) and Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they “face their biggest challenge yet.” Forced to balance their role as heroes with the strength of their familial bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god named Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic herald Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it wasn’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

“For me, the ’60s is not just about the visual aesthetic, but also about optimism,” Shakman said at San Diego Comic-Con. “It’s about looking at the stars and dreaming about traveling to space. It’s about the fact that with the right heart and the right mind you can do anything – and that’s what the Fantastic Four is all about. So it’s more about capturing the spirit and tone (of the 1960s).”

The Fantastic Four: Getting Started is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
