MILAN, ITALY – DECEMBER 06: Nicolo Barella of FC Internazionale celebrates his team’s second goal from the penalty spot with his teammates Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu during the Serie A match between FC Internazionale and Parma at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on December 06, 2024 in Milan, Italy. A sensational performance from Federico Dimarco for Nicolò Barella and Marcus Thuram enabled Inter to beat Parma 3-1 at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri still had a game in hand after their Fiorentina trip was cut short by Edoardo Bove’s medical emergency, but also had to prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen. Francesco Acerbi, Benjamin Pavard and goalkeeper Antonio Di Gennaro were missing. The Ducali beat Lazio 3-1 last week but were also without Gabriel Charpentier this season with a ruptured Achilles tendon, leaving Alessandro Circati, Mateusz Kowalski, Adrian Bernabé, Adrian Benedyczak and Yordan Osorio on the absentee list.

See how everything developed in the live blog.

Inter were awarded a penalty after eight minutes, but it was converted into a free kick by VAR because Mandela hit the heels of Keita Lautaro Martinez just outside the penalty area. On the resulting free kick, Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot was deflected just centimeters past the near post.

Parma lost Botond Balogh to injury and Marcus Thuram’s effort from a corner was deflected, then Denzel Dumfries hit the goal frame from a difficult angle after a double backheel from Lautaro Martinez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Lautaro Martinez had the ball in the net in the 18th minute, but only after Thuram was offside in the build-up, while Mkhitaryan shot past the goal after a solo slalom through the Parma defense, as did Simon Sohm at the other end .

The Inter captain shot over from six meters after Zion Suzuki had blocked a deflected cross from Federico Dimarco, while Yann Sommer had to fend off a counter-attack from Matteo Cancellieri from a difficult angle.

After Suzuki parried Calhanoglu’s attempt, Inter broke the deadlock with sensational skill from Dimarco, who controlled Mkhitaryan’s advance with his left heel to confuse a defender and set him up himself to fire home with his right foot sweep.

Inter doubled their lead with another great goal, this time with a brilliant pass from Mkhitaryan, who sent Barella running just beyond the halfway line and selling a dummy to both a defender and a goalkeeper before firing into the empty net from 12 yards. It was initially flagged for offside, but VAR confirmed the goal was good.

Suzuki made a crucial save to deny Lautaro Martinez’s close-range header from Alessandro Bastoni’s cross, then Matteo Cancellieri missed a promising Parma counterattack on the same move.

There was a third goal from a set piece when Yann Bisseck took the Calhanoglu corner for Marcus Thuram and fired it at the back post from point-blank range. It was a very special goal because Thuram was born in Parma, where his father Lilian was playing at the time.

Lautaro Martinez should have scored the fourth when he was sent home with a great through ball by Joaquin Correa, but he missed the target by inches as Suzuki stormed out.

Instead, Parma got a consolation when Matteo Darmian tried to tackle Dennis Man on Hernani’s through ball but accidentally directed it into his own net.

Inter initially received another penalty, which was then disallowed, this time because Antoine Hainaut had moved the ball and not touched Lautaro Martinez’s boot.
