Snow will start light and become heavier as the afternoon and evening progresses. Moderate to heavy snowfall is possible on Thursday night.

LEISURE TIME. It’s 1145. I turn to the weather watch. 12. There will be snow out there that will fly through the air tomorrow. Yeah, a lot of it, you know, as the day goes on, it seems like we have less of a break. I still believe that in the morning we will see that things are not so bad. It will start to snow in the morning. BUT IT WILL BE VERY EASY TO START. This is for Thursday morning. Remember: As we approach the evening, things really get going. This is the part of the day where I think the heavy snowfall will increase and will likely have the biggest impact on the evening commute. THEN WE GO INTO FRIDAY MORNING, WHICH COULD HAVE ITS OWN TREATMENTS, ITS OWN PROBLEMS, BASICALLY BECAUSE WE’RE NOW ADDING THE POTENTIAL OF LEE EFFECT SNOW. And that really increases in the afternoon. So not only do you have a morning problem with the remaining slick spots, but you also get this lake effect band that will build up tomorrow, particularly for areas to the north. THIS IS HOW IT WILL BE TOMORROW. I want to kind of recap this. Your morning commute on Thursday will probably be fine unless the system speeds up extremely for some reason. But for now we’re pretty happy that the morning looks good. It will snow more and more as the day progresses. IT’S LIGHTLY TO CONSTANTLY SNOWING. So by lunch we’re talking about a few smaller accumulations, a few slushy spots, maybe even a few of, you know, the melting continues because it’s a wet, heavy type of snow. But in the evening it becomes so heavy that there are problems with visibility and then the roads are covered with snow. Therefore, tomorrow’s evening rush will likely be the worst of all the winter storm commutes we see, not just for Sheboygan and Fond du Lac Counties, but as far north as Door County, where we’re thinking about Friday morning THIS LAKE EFFECT BAND TYPE OF SETTINGS, SO WE HAVE HIGHER SNOWFALL NUMBERS FOR THOSE REGIONS. LET ME SHOW YOU FUTURECAST. And this is a little different than what I showed you this morning. That’s why I’m excited for you to join us for the update at 11am. BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT THE WARM FRONT WILL TRIGGER THE FIRST SNOW. This is the light snowfall I was talking about. THEN, OVER THE DAY, THIS LOW BEGINS TO COME. MORE MOISTURE ARRIVES HERE. HERE YOU SEE THE DARKER COLORS. This is a very good sign of more intense snowfall. AND LOOK AT THE TIME. HERE IS 1:00. So southeastern Wisconsin is still in that band of light. SO THE CONDITIONS WILL NOT BE THAT BAD YET. Then this band moves in and these very dark bands really start to kind of pop up. THIS HAPPENS. UNFORTUNATELY THIS LOW HAS NOT YET BEEN PASSED DURING THE EVENING HOUR. The low is moving through, we still have some of those heavier bands rolling through. Look at the timing. It comes out a little quicker, which is good. This gives DPW some time to clean everything up in anticipation of Friday morning. Unfortunately, on Friday morning there is even more moisture here. DO YOU SEE THAT? THIS IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE SNOW WITH THE LEE EFFECT. And given the direction of the winds, we believe areas near Door County into Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties are expected to see additional snowfall through Friday. AND YOU CAN SEE THIS TYPE OF SETUP HERE. DO YOU SEE THE TIME? HERE is 11:00 am. NOT REALLY SET UP YET. It will likely continue to tighten throughout the day. NOW THE SNOW TYPE WILL BE MORE OF A POTATO PRICE TYPE SNOW. As the day progresses the snow becomes more and more humid. The closer we get to nighttime, the more evenly the snow falls. So that’s the heavier type of snow we’ll be dealing with, 2 to 4 inches. IF YOU ARE IN MILWAUKEE, WAUKESHA COUNTY, 1 TO 2 CLOSER TO THE STATE ROUTE WHERE YOU ARE IN THAT LAKE EFFECT BAND, YOU HAVE THE 4 TO 6. SO WHERE SHOULD YOU BE? What time should you shovel? YOU CAN PICK UP A SHIFT IF YOU GET HOME FROM WORK ON FRIDAY MORNING YOU MUST PICK UP A SHIFT. AND THEN YOU HAVE THIS LAKE EFFECT BAND TO PICK UP BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON, ESPECIALLY FURTHER NORTH. So get the snow blowers ready because as mentioned, it’s wet. This results in an almost normal type of snow. THIS IS THE HARDEST TYPE OF SHOVEL. It’s easier to drive than this fluffy stuff. So this is what I would say is our first major snow event of the season. WE HAVEN’T HAD MUCH YET. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE IMPACT. About Friday afternoon. After that, the weekend is cold for us, but our vacation plans are postponed. BUT IT COULD STI
