Severe weather brings tornadoes, flood warnings and power outages

Neutral on-ground parking is permitted until 8am on Sunday, December 28th. The Tornado Warning remains in effect until 2 a.m. for SE LA and South MS

NEW ORLEANS – Severe thunderstorms and severe weather across southeast Louisiana prompted multiple warnings and safety measures from the National Weather Service Saturday evening.

The Causeway reopened at 9:44 p.m. The storm that closed the Causeway Bridge has passed by this time. The bridge is open again.

Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission: Due to extreme weather conditions, the Causeway – northbound and the Causeway – southbound are currently closed. The estimated closing time is approximately 1 hour.

The tornado warning ended at 9:15 p.m., while a tornado warning remains in effect until 2 a.m. for Southeast LA and South MS. The flash flood warning is in effect until 12:15 a.m. Sunday, December 28.

NOLA Ready issued an alert on Sunday, Dec. 28, allowing neutral on-ground parking until 8 a.m. to mitigate potential impacts from flooding.

A power outage was reported in Washington Parish. According to Entergy, 1,426 customers are affected.

As of 10:45 p.m., 1,956 customers in Tangipahoa Parish are without power. At one time, 2,567 customers were affected.
