Sharpe shines, but the Blazers fall victim to the Spurs

The Portland Trail Blazers showed up in San Antonio on Saturday night preparing for a game against the Spurs. However, they were completely unprepared for the tornado-like devastation wrought by Victor Wembanyama. The French wrecking ball destroyed Portland, scoring 30 goals and leading the Spurs to a 114-94 victory. The loss puts Portland at 9-19 this season.

Blazer of the game

Shaedon Sharpe was the only Blazers player who looked remotely, well, sharp tonight. He shot 11-16 from the field en route to 25 points. He was spitting into the wind, but at least the knock was significantly bigger.

Status of the night

The statistic of the night didn’t belong to the Blazers tonight, but to Wembanyama. He managed 6 blocks in the first half and 10 in the entire game. The Blazers actually managed to get decent distance from the fullbacks off the dribble. They were unable to convert on the edge due to the ever-present threat of Wemby.

What we will remember

With about 2:20 left in the first half, Sharpe hit a monster dunk off an alley-oop pass from Toumani Camara. He gets so high that snow forms in his hair and oxygen tanks are needed to get him down safely. It was one of the most impressive dunks of the season. It also prompted him to make an immediate three-pointer. More, please.

What’s next?

Box score

The Blazers now travel to Dallas for a Monday night game against the Mavericks, starting at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
