Simone Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens ‘knows so much about gymnastics’

Simone Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, is a big gymnastics fan, she says — but she’s still learning about the NFL.

In a new video shared by the Olympics’ official Instagram account, Biles, 27, was asked how much she and Owens, a 29-year-old safety for the Chicago Bears, know about each other’s sports.

The gold medalist (looking cozy and chic in a fluffy black Prada bucket hat) said her husband knows more about gymnastics than she knows about soccer.

“He knows so much about gymnastics,” Biles said during the interview, which took place in the back of a moving car.

As for her own knowledge of the gridiron, Biles said she “could probably explain it to a five-year-old,” before gently admitting, “If I explained it to a 25-year-old, it might not make sense.”

Biles is a regular supporter at Owens’ NFL games, just as he was a fixture at her own competitions, including watching her performances in gymnastics’ complicated scoring system.

She recently told PEOPLE that she had “so much” to learn about soccer after meeting Owens on the dating app Raya in 2020.

“My father and brothers always watched football, but I was never into it,” she remembers.

“But I was always in the gym too, it’s not like I had any time to get comfortable with it at all,” she said.

Biles even admitted that she “didn’t know anything about football” when she first attended Houston Texans games as a special celebrity guest as her athletic career began.

“In the very beginning, the Texans (in their hometown of Houston) used to bring me out so I could lead the team out of the tunnel and all that good stuff, but I still had absolutely no idea about football,” she told PEOPLE.

Luckily, she picked up some of the lingo and leaned on her fellow wives and friends for her soccer knowledge.

“I’ve learned so much and even some of his teammates’ wives are like, ‘Oh my God, you’ve come so far, you’ve learned so much,'” Biles previously said, “because they’ve seen that journey.”
