Slick roads will impact the morning commute as the system brings snow showers

METRO DETROIT – We saw school closures add up this morning as the plague of snow that began last night made roads slippery. You can find the current school closures under this link.

Here is a live look at the roads (highways and secondary roads) from 6:30 a.m. as well as an update on road closures:

“To be honest, if you didn’t have to go out, I wouldn’t go out right now because it’s very slippery underneath,” Redford resident Tim Lanning said. “If you look down, it’s all ice down here. And the further we go, the colder it gets. So, what else do you need to know? I mean, that’s all. Just slow down. Be careful here.”

“I’ve been doing this off and on for about 20 years,” said Jim Osborne of Livonia when it comes to plowing roads. “I mean, you get used to it. You get used to it. I mean, it’s Michigan. What do you expect to know? It could be 70 degrees tomorrow.”

Ice is starting to pile up on the side streets of metro Detroit, particularly in Southfield. The drivers we spoke to were surprised by the road conditions.

“People have told me about it, but you never know what to expect. Will it snow a little? It could snow a lot, you just have to wake up and see,” Arriell Waters said.

One man we spoke to actually ran in these conditions.

“Just placing your foot and just being aware. I’ve had years of practice at it, so I’m kind of used to it now.” said Jahrt Hill.

“It’s pretty bad out here,” said Aden Russell of Carlton. “Very slippery conditions.” I would definitely drive carefully if you’re going to work. But we’re out here salting and making things happen.”

“The roads are slippery. Whiteouts. “I was going about 10 miles an hour up 12 Mile,” said Detroiter Steve Bush. “Drive slowly and try to pay attention. Don’t drive too fast. Keep your eyes on the road.”

“It was hard. It was slippery. I just didn’t expect it to be like this. I got a text message early in the morning that said, “Be careful on your way to work,” said Leo Holland. “I saw some loose and fast riders and some slips.”
