The cold is open for the latest episode of Saturday Night Live is described as “legendary” by fans as it featured an almost endless stream of famous faces.

Martin Short hosted the special Christmas edition of the show, marking the fifth time Just murders in the building Star hosted SNL.

The 74-year-old actor now joins a prestigious list of celebrities who have hosted the show five times, many of whom appeared in the star-studded cold open.

The show began with Oscar winner Tom Hanks, wearing a robe with the number five on it, joking that he founded the exclusive SNL 5 Timers Club in 1990 as a “brilliantly lazy way to avoid writing a monologue.” It has become one of the most exclusive clubs in our industry.”

Then Hanks joins in Ant-man Actors Paul Rudd and then Martin Short.

Short is then introduced to the other members of the club, which include Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin (who wore the number 17 on his jacket), Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone and John Mulaney.

Although he wasn’t performing, Short found time to roast his friend and co-star Steve Martin when Hanks told him they would be serving a cocktail called “The Marty-tini.”

“You know, it’s often paired with our Steve Martini, but tonight we’re serving it on its own,” Hanks said. “And I bet it’s even better on its own,” Short replied.

Jimmy Fallon, who hasn’t hosted SNL five times, also makes a cameo as Jacket Boy at the end, telling Short: “I just want to say that I’m so happy to be here for this moment, that’s why I want to present it.” “You will receive the official Five Timer’s Club jacket in your exact size – a women’s small.”

A chaotic scene then follows as Short struggles to get into the jacket. At some point he decides to make it about himself and says, “From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say that I love most of you so much.” And live from New York, it’s Saturday night.”

SNL fans were quick to heap praise on the skit.

On YouTube, one viewer said, “This might be one of the best cold opens in SNL history!”

A second fan added: “Man the people walking through the room just keep getting better!” What a moment! The fact that they are some of the best and most legendary hosts to have graced SNL! I love it so much!”

A third person wrote: “This has to be one of the most iconic cold opens of all time. “It’s so cool to see former hosts and cast members who are over 50 years old doing skits together.”

The cold release also featured cameo appearances from current cast members Bowen Yang and Colin Jost, with the latter later being put in a very awkward position in front of his wife Scarlett Johansson.

During “Weekend Update,” co-hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che did their annual “joke swap” in their segment.

The tradition often involves both men finding new ways to embarrass the other by forcing each other to read jokes written by their comedy partner that they have never read before.

However, almost all of Jost’s jokes centered around his wife, who was listening backstage and capturing her amazed live reaction on cameras.
