Snow showers could cause slippery commutes in eastern Iowa Wednesday morning

A big reality check is in store for eastern Iowa as an arctic cold front moves in Tuesday evening. The front will bring snow and a blast of arctic air with cold conditions and strong winds.

The snow

  • Snow showers will occur in eastern Iowa after midnight
  • Short, heavy snow showers could reduce visibility until early Wednesday morning
  • The snow will taper off around 10am
  • Accumulation will be minor but could result in slippery conditions while driving

The arctic cold

  • Temperatures will remain in the 20s overnight into Wednesday morning
  • Temperatures will begin to drop at daybreak into the teens by afternoon
  • Winds will increase to around 30 mph, resulting in wind chills near and below zero in the afternoon
  • Temperatures will continue to drop to around zero by Thursday morning
  • The wind will cool around -10 degrees on Thursday morning
