Some schools in San Diego County were closed due to power shutdowns for safety reasons

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – On Monday, the San Diego County Office of Education announced that several schools in the county will remain closed for safety reasons on Tuesday, December 10, due to power shutoffs.

According to an announcement from SDG&E over the weekend, the electric company said customers living in fire-prone communities could have their power turned off due to a warning alert.

According to SDG&E, these power shutoffs are essential to reduce the risk of wildfires during extreme weather conditions as they could impact power lines.

According to the county Board of Education, the closures will impact school campuses and will result in the following schools remaining closed Tuesday:

  • Alpine Union School District
  • Borrego Springs Unified School District
  • Dehesa School District
  • Jamul-Dulzura Union School District
  • Julian Union Elementary School District
  • Julian Union High School District
  • Mountain Empire School District
  • Ramona Unified School District
  • Spencer Valley School District
  • Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District
  • Warner Unified School District

Additionally, Del Lago Academy in the Escondido Union High School District and Vivian Banks Charter School in the Bonsall Unified School District are closed due to the power outages.
