Son dies at birth

The news that left tackle Trent Williams’ newborn son died on November 24 has once again devastated the 49ers family.

Sondra Williams, the 49ers tackle’s wife, said in an Instagram post that the baby was diagnosed with trisomy 13 – a rare genetic disorder – and that a twin daughter was lost earlier in the pregnancy.

“My forever angel, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr. It was extremely difficult to process the saddest hello and goodbye I have ever endured,” Sondra Williams wrote. “My firstborn and only son, I have always wanted you. But God wanted and needed you more. . . I have peace of mind knowing that you will never have to suffer. Even though I will never hear your soft coos and cries or see those beautiful little eyes looking up at me, I am grateful to God for the time I spent with you.”

Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the painful news in a conference call with reporters on Monday, saying Trent Williams “was at the hospital with her and got to meet him and say goodbye.” Then he had to cremate him on Friday. He deals with it and works on it.”

According to Sondra Williams, the time of death was at 11:38 p.m. on November 24th – five weeks before the due date. Trent Williams did not travel to the 49ers’ game against the Green Bay Packers that day and was left out of the lineup after being listed as questionable during the week.

Williams was on site last week but did not travel to the 49ers’ 35-10 road loss to the Buffalo Bills and was sidelined with an ankle injury. He has been on the injury report since the Week 10 win over Tampa Bay because of his ankle issue.
