A South Carolina woman was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday for drunkenly driving into a newlywed couple’s golf cart, killing the bride and seriously injuring the groom.

A judge announced the sentence in a Charleston courtroom after 27-year-old Jamie Komoroski pleaded guilty to all charges related to the April 28, 2023 crash that killed 34-year-old Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson suffered a brain injury and broken bones for hours after they got married.

Komoroski was charged with involuntary manslaughter and three counts of drunken driving.

District Court Judge Deadra L. Jefferson sentenced Komoroski to 25 years in prison for driving under the influence causing death. She was sentenced to 10 and 15 years in prison for her other crimes, but is serving those sentences concurrently.

“She’s not going to come back to life for 10 or 25 years,” Samantha Miller’s mother, Lisa Miller, told the court after Komoroski pleaded guilty, according to Charleston NBC affiliate WCBD. “It’s a lifetime.”

Komoroski apologized for her “thoughtless” actions and said she was “hopelessly” addicted to alcohol at the time of the accident.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” she once said, referring to the relatives and loved ones of the victims. “Hopefully you’ll be able to forgive me one day. I know forgiveness must be earned.”

The newlywed couple and two passengers had been driving a golf cart to a rental home in Folly Beach after their wedding reception when Komoroski crashed into the back of the smaller vehicle at 65 miles per hour around 10 p.m

All occupants of the golf cart, which was traveling 25 miles per hour, were ejected, according to WCBD.

Miller died of blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
