“I looked at my first and second measurements and they were covered,” said Sellers, who rushed for a game-high 166 yards. “Then I saw green grass and drove off.”

Beamer had a much simpler explanation for the Sellers’ exploits.

“It was like old Chicago Bulls coach Doug Collins said,” Beamer said. “Get the ball to Michael Jordan and get the beep out of his way. We did that. We got the ball to LaNorris and got out of his way.’”

On the other hand, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney could only shake his head in disbelief at what he saw.

“We completely knocked him out a couple of times,” Swinney said. “It’s like a repeat and it doesn’t matter who he played against this season because he did the same thing to them. It’s the same thing every week, week after week. He’s just something special. He made a big difference in this game.”

Sellers has been good enough in the last six games to be considered for the Heisman Trophy, Beamer said.

“LaNorris Sellers is the best player in the country,” Beamer said. “To all the media people who vote on the Heisman, if you don’t vote for him in the Heisman Trophy voting, you’re biased. Name me a player in the country who does more than this kid, especially today.”

It was the sixth straight overall win for the Gamecocks and the second straight time USC defeated Clemson at Memorial Stadium.

But was it enough for the Gamecocks to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff?
