(Spoiler) Shot, Wes vs. Csonka

(Spoiler) Shot, Wes vs. Csonka

(Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for FBI: International Season 4, Episode 8 “You’ll Never See It Coming.”

We have to admit: we both see and don’t see the end of this episode coming. Go to the FBI: International In the fall finale, we got the feeling that things were going to be a tough one for Wes (Jesse Lee Soffer) as the man responsible for the death of his former partner, Greg Csonka (Beau Knapp), is on trial, but in the process The episode gets worse and worse. It’s clear that everything is leading to something else.

After Csonka beats their key witness to death (and three other inmates claim responsibility), the Fly Team tries to build the case against him. But now Wes must testify to provide a full factual picture and a complete picture of Csonka’s crimes. Smitty (Eva-Jane Willis) isn’t sure it’s the best idea given everyone involved, but he’s determined to live up to his friend’s name.

Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) and Raines (Carter Redwood) are the ones who sit down with Csonka (who has an injured right hand) and his lawyer Simons. Csonka tries to get under Vo’s skin, telling him that he’s still working with Wes (partners end up dying) and taunting the agents with the “truth” about their boss’s coming out. Wes insists that nothing can be used against him. But then the defense calls Tyler (Jay Hayden), Wes’ friend who is now a temporary member of the Fly Team, as a witness, even though he was not present when Csonka was arrested.

Simons questions Tyler about the Montrose case, in which Wes shot the main suspect he was desperate to arrest. Tyler argues that he wasn’t desperate. Wes failed to document the primary source. Tyler doesn’t remember it. (Wes later explains to the team that otherwise the source would not cooperate.) False information from this source led to Wes’ illegal shooting. The prosecutor tries to object. Simons assumes that Wes also wanted to shoot Csonka and blames him for his partner’s murder. Then the judge finally says enough. But Simons’ strategy is now clear: Wes’s credibility and with it the case itself.

And unfortunately, Wes takes the bait when it’s his turn to testify. Simons first asks about his mother (to show that he is irrevocably conflicted about Csonka), then about his past in the juvenile detention center. When he was twelve years old, his father was imprisoned for aggravated assault, and a few years later his mother took an overdose. As a minor, Wes was arrested for shoplifting and disorderly conduct – and he and Csonka were in the same correctional facility. Although they weren’t there at the same time, Csonka did got into a fight with one of Wes’ friends and sent him to the hospital (while “defending himself”). Wes says he doesn’t know he’s responsible, but Simons scoffs. Simons then asks how his mother got the money for drugs and wonders if there are a lot of men hanging around there. At that moment, Wes stands up, speaks to Csonka and warns him that if he tries to make it personal, he won’t be okay. Simons calls this a threat. He then files a motion to dismiss – and prosecutors will not appeal if Csonka is not convicted.

Simons offers a deal in which Csonka continues to taunt Vo (which worries us): six months in prison for aiding and abetting a tourist visa under false pretenses. They have to prove he killed the witness, so they trace the money to the prison guard he paid to be taken to his cell. As he waits to bring him in, Tyler lets Wes know he’s willing to do anything to make sure Csonka goes down. But Wes says they’re not like that. (Uh-oh, something is clearly going to happen that will change his mind.)

The Fly Team eventually gets to Csonka’s excavator, who shoots himself as they arrive to bring him in. But they have all his documents (the account book, his laptop) and deceive Csonka into believing that his employee has betrayed him. With that he confesses everything, including the murder of Wes’ partner. The new deal calls for a 30-year sentence for him in a Hungarian prison. As they head to the transfer, Wes reminds Csonka how he talked when he arrested him and said he would find him and he would never see it coming. Well, he has (Csonka in chains) and if he still wants to come to him in about 30 years, Wes will wait.

But during the transport, a truck rams one of the cars and during the ensuing shootout, Csonka escapes in a car. Wes and Vo follow him, but as they catch up and try to bring him in, Vo is shot in the back – and this is what happens bad. Csonka escapes as Wes tries to stop the bleeding and calls an ambulance. When she arrives at the hospital, she has lost a lot of blood and her vital signs are declining.

Wes and Raines are visibly upset at the hospital, where the former leaves the latter to relay the news. And so Raines is the one who finds out Vo is having surgery; The bullet broke her collarbone and hit the subclavian vein, and they need to perform a vein transplant without causing additional damage.

Meanwhile, Wes, Tyler and Smitty track down Csonka on his way to farmland he bought. There’s a disused airstrip, and when they get there he’s already taken off in a plane. He also left a note: “You’ll never see it coming.” That’s when Raines calls her to the hospital.

Vo underwent surgery and lost a lot of blood. They tried to fix the problem, but then something went wrong and she went into shock. “It doesn’t look good,” he reveals. Wes steps aside and as Tyler joins him, the fly team leader asks, “Whatever I need, right?”… We’re going to look for Csonka. I promise you that. And when we do that, we take off our badges.” Tyler is with him.

But how far will Wes go? Will Vo survive? Let us know what you think will happen next in the comments section below.
