The new season begins right where it left off: Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) makes the shocking decision to get back into the deadly game rather than reunite with his daughter. No more cliffhangers

Season 1 literally left us guessing about the fate of detective Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-jun) after he was shot and fell off a cliff. According to series creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk, this question will be addressed at the beginning of the second season. “You get the answer to your burning question of whether Jun-ho died or made it out alive when he fell off Cliff,” Hwang teased in a Netflix interview. “And if he made it out alive, how did he do it?”

Wi Ha-jun was excited to reprise his role and hinted at the inner struggles his character faces. “He now knows the truth, but he cannot get support from his captain and continues to fight alone because he has no evidence,” Wi shared. “This solo journey in his life is tiring. He is on a mission to uncover the truth, expose gross injustices, search for his brother and save people from a dangerous organization.”

The return of iconic characters

Alongside Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-jun, Lee Byung-hun returns as the enigmatic frontman whose eerie presence continues to haunt the series. Gong Yoo also returns as a recruiter and provides additional fascination with his magnetic charm. The new season will also delve deeper into the frontman’s backstory and his strained relationship with Jun-ho, raising the stakes for an emotional and action-packed showdown.

More games, more danger

While Season 1 shocked us with its brutal twists on childhood games, Season 2 promises to up the ante. Director Hwang has hinted at even deadlier challenges that will push players – and viewers – to their limits. “(Going back to Squid Game) I felt a whirlwind of emotions that included joy but also fear. I was scared,” he admits. “I also had expectations and wanted to make sure I entertain the audience again with Season 2.” With just seven episodes Squid games Season 2 promises to be an exciting ride. Mark your calendar, the games are about to start again!
