Dec. 1 (UPI) — The CEO of car giant Stellantis had unexpectedly resigned, the company announced on Sunday, after the share value fell sharply this year.

The maker of more than a dozen car brands, including Jeep, Peugeot, Ram Trucks and Alfa Romeo, announced that it had accepted the resignation of Carlos Tavares and was “in full swing” in selecting his successor, with the intention of initially to name a new CEO midway through next year.

Tavares resigned following recent disagreements with Stellantis’ board, a situation highlighted by senior independent director Henri de Castries, who said on Sunday that the company’s success was “based on a perfect alignment” between shareholders, the board and the CEO based on.
