Steph Curry rejects comeback offer as Wolves lose to Warriors

Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said team morale was good after Thursday’s disastrous loss to the New York Knicks. It was the first type of game where everything had gone so wrong, he said, but if a similar performance happened again the Wolves would have more to worry about.

The Wolves didn’t have the same presence against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night as they did against the Knicks, but through the first 24 minutes it looked like they were in for a repeat. Despite repeatedly leading in the second half, Steph Curry took the lead in the fourth quarter of the Wolves’ 113-103 loss at Target Center in Minneapolis.

The Wolves (14-13) got within striking distance in the final minutes, but Curry ensured the Warriors (15-12) would leave Minneapolis with a win. Curry first hit a 3-pointer that put Golden State up 99-94. Then two free throws gave the Warriors a 101-94 lead. Then came the dagger, another 3-pointer from Curry that gave the Warriors a 10-point lead.

Curry also knew it was the deciding point because after practicing the shot, he danced and shouted toward the crowd.

Curry finished the game with 31 points, 10 assists and three rebounds.

Things couldn’t have been tougher offensively for the Wolves in the first half. They mustered just 15 points in the first quarter and remained scoreless for the first six and a half minutes of the second frame. Minnesota made just six of its first 32 field attempts and trailed by as many as 21 points during the second-quarter drought.

Where the wolves were lucky, the warriors were almost as cold. Golden State outscored them by just two points total in the second quarter, and Minnesota entered halftime trailing by 13, when its deficit could have been much larger.
