There’s a chance history will be made in the main event of UFC 310 when Kai Asakura takes flyweight gold.

The Japanese star comes from RIZIN and has a rare chance to win the world title in his debut, unlike any other UFC fighter before him. While there have been other occasions where a fighter has challenged for the belt in their debut, they lost those efforts.

However, to do this he will have to dethrone the impressive Alexandre Pantoja, which is no easy task. The Brazilian literally wiped out the flyweight division, forcing them to look elsewhere for a challenger.

However, it appears that much of the fanfare surrounding this weekend’s event has to do with the co-main event. Ian Machado Garry has lined up to challenge Shavkat Rakhmonov in a fight for the welterweight title that will see one man’s unbeaten streak come to an end after a total of 33 wins.

Tensions seemed to boil over at the weigh-in when the former teammates nearly clashed and had to be torn apart. And champion Belal Muhammad will be an interested spectator after he was forced to withdraw from this bout due to a toe injury.
