NORTH TEXAS – There was a storm the day before Christmas, and now another storm is threatening the day after Christmas.

Happy holidays everyone. We had a mostly dry, cloudy and cool Christmas Day. After a mild start, there wasn’t much of a warm-up today.

Before the year ends, we have one more day of severe weather to survive.

We expect storms to hit the metroplex by mid-morning. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats.

Unlike yesterday, these storms are moving quickly east. This reduces the risk of flooding but increases the risk of damaging winds.

As the storms move into our eastern counties this afternoon, the risk of severe weather increases. The SPC has placed this area at the higher “minor” risk of severe weather (level 2 out of 5).

Instability is higher as you travel down I-45 from the Metroplex. This serves as fuel for severe storms.

Both the risk of tornadoes and hail are higher the closer you get to the yellow and red areas above.

The topic of tornadoes on the day after Christmas is a sensitive topic in this country. Just nine years ago, Dallas experienced the deadliest tornado outbreak in December history.

The risk is highest in the east and southeast and later in the day. The First Alert Weather team will keep you updated.

After these storms pass this afternoon, peaceful weather returns to North Texas. We will have a few extremely warm days before the next cold front comes through. It was a very warm December, but we will spend the last day of the year in more wintery temperatures.
