Subway driver killed in stabbing attack on bus in Seattle’s University District

A King County Metro driver is dead after he was stabbed on the bus he was riding in the University District.

It happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday on the bus in the 4100 block of University Way NE, near the University of Washington (UW) campus, according to a fire record from the Seattle Police Department (SPD).

Video from the crime scene showed the bus cordoned off with police tape and officers searching the area.

Investigators said the 59-year-old driver made it a few steps to a nearby alley where he collapsed. When officers arrived, they found a man with stab wounds to the chest.

Seattle Fire Department paramedics arrived and determined the driver was dead at the scene.

An SPD spokesman said the driver was stabbed after a fight on the bus.

Police are searching for the suspect, described as a man, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 1 inch tall and wearing a blue jacket. He reportedly left in an alley heading north.

Seattle police officers and officers from the King County Sheriff’s Office used a K-9 to search for the suspect, but he was not found.

Police cordoned off the area until SPD homicide and crime scene investigators arrived to collect evidence.
