Sunshine, wind and bitterly cold conditions in the Hudson Valley

Untreated pavement is icy today. Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the day. On Christmas Eve we could see snowflakes.

Yesterday’s storm brought rare December snow, and snow melted from Saturday afternoon has formed icy patches on untreated surfaces that will persist into Monday.

Temperatures are in the teens this morning, but it feels like it’s almost 0°F. Conditions do not improve significantly in the afternoon. Despite the sunshine, highs will only reach the mid 20s and with a breeze it will feel like they are in the mid teens. Tonight the winds will calm down. This will cause temperatures to drop even further on Monday morning. Some locations outside urban areas will fall into the single digits.

Clouds will move in on Monday and more typical December temperatures will occur. Afternoon temperatures will rise to near freezing, but icy patches will remain on shady areas and freezing will occur again on Monday night.

A slight disturbance could bring a shower of rain or snow Tuesday morning. Little to no accumulation is expected and the remainder of Christmas Eve will be spiced up with some sunshine.

The week ends with calm conditions and milder temperatures. Morning temperatures will be near or above freezing and afternoon highs will rise back to 40°C by next weekend. Rain showers and mild conditions are expected as the new year begins.

MONDAY: Sun initially, then some clouds. Highs in the low 30s. Lows in the upper 20s.


TUESDAY: Scattered snow showers in the morning. Cumulation is possible. Afternoon temperatures are above freezing. Highs in the upper 30s.

WEDNESDAY: A mix of sun and clouds. Highs near 40.

THURSDAY: Sunshine. Highs near 40.

FRIDAY: A mix of clouds and sun. Highs near 40.

THE WEEKEND: A scattered shower. Milder. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s.
