The suspect in the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson shouted Tuesday: “This is completely inappropriate and an insult to the intelligence of the American people” before fighting extradition from Pennsylvania to face murder charges in New York .

During the hearing, Luigi Mangione not only chose to fight his extradition but was also denied bail. Mangione, 26, is being held back in custody at the Huntingdon State Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania while he goes through the extradition challenge process, which could take days – if not a month or longer, as The New York Times noted.

Mangione arrived at the hearing in handcuffs and an orange prison jumpsuit, and was seen on video screaming as police led him into the courthouse. Not everything he shouted was immediately understandable.

Mangione was arrested Monday at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in connection with Thompson’s killing outside a Manhattan hotel where an investor meeting for the CEO’s company was being held.

Authorities in Pennsylvania arrested him after he was recognized by a local person in photos released by the New York police investigating the murder.

According to New York authorities, police found Mangione wearing a firearm silencer, a mask like the shooter’s, a fake New Jersey ID that matched the ID that police said the shooter was wearing before the New York City shooting Hostel had checked in, and a handwritten document.

On Monday evening, Mangione was charged by the New York Attorney General’s Office with second-degree murder, forgery and three counts of weapons possession after being arraigned in Blair District Court in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
